It's a question we hear all the time. If you have experienced results from care, it's only natural that you want someone you love to benefit too. Here are some non-treatening approaches that may be helpful for you.
Ask questions: Rather than judge their unwillingness to try chiropractic, become curious. Since our beliefs dictate our behavior, try to find out what belief(s) stand in their way. Often it is some fear of a terrible past experience or the thought of "if I try chiropractic, I'll have to come for the rest of my life". The truth is and you know, that we have never been and never will be high pressure. Instead, we try to create a friendly, family-centered environment that teaches individuals how their body truly heals. Supply information: One of the best ways to diffuse irrational fears is to supply information (which we are more than happy to provide) or have them come in during your next visit to meet Dr. Chad and the staff. Give it time: Change takes time. Whether it's making new healthy habits, changing someone's belief system or changing someone's spine. Be patient. Trust that your friend or family member will choose chiropractic when the time is right. The reason we have a nervous system is to perceive our environment and coordinate the behavior of every cell in our body. It is an epigenome thing, not a gene thing! Chiropractic rests on the simple truth that "your nervous system runs the whole show, maintain it!". When you tell others about chiropractic, you are slowly but surely changing the world. Many of us have already seen success in chiropractic care helping us with various problems and pain. However, chiropractic care is often seen as something you do for your back pain or neck pain. Though it is natural to associate chiropractic and back care, there is a multitude of other health concerns that may be helped through chiropractic care. Some conditions that many have seen alleviated by chiropractic care are: Surprised? Since chiropractic care is really about restoring nervous system control of your body, and your nervous system controls everything, we see many types of health issues other than back pain resolve with chiropractic care.
Chiropractic helps to remove the interference in your body that is causing your symptoms. This way your spine aligns into its proper position, boosting your entire body’s function and healing. Questions about other conditions? Just ask, we may be able to help! What is Subluxation?
Vertebral Subluxation is one of the most overlooked forms of neurological dysfunction affecting society today. Not only is it affecting Americans at pandemic proportions but it's also affecting kids at alarming rates. This is due to the rise in Traumatic Birth Injury. Traumatic Birth Injury is typically associated with C-section, vacuum or forcep delivery or mom being administered pitocin which increases intrauterine constraint putting unnecessary strain on the fetus's upper cervical spine and skull. When physicians (man's design) try to overrule physiology (God's design), we can introduce sickness and start pandemics. Vertebral subluxation occurs when a vertebrae (1 or more) lose their proper alignment and get "stuck". This causes a cascade of events that lead to a physiological stress response. This chronic state of stress causes the body to go into a permanent state of fight/flight which autonomically (automatically) down regulates our hormone balance, digestive system, immune system, can cause increase in blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rates, seizures, etc... Because the nervous system carries messages between the brain and body, regulating everything, Vertebral Subluxation is very important! 3 Causes of Subluxation 1. Physical Stress (Traumas) - car accident, slip/falls, sporting injury, repetitive movement, birth injury, sleep and poor posture, etc.. 2. Chemical Stress (Toxins) - poor nutrition, smoking, alcohol, toxins from your external environment, food preservatives, water, etc.. 3. Emotional Stress (Thoughts) - loss of a loved one, fear, anger, negativity can affect muscle tone/tension leading to subluxation and altered nerve flow. The "big" problem You cannot always "feel" subluxation when you have them but they can alter your body's "function" because of the "stuck" (lack of movement/proprioception) and neurological stress that they produce. Regular chiropractic check ups, even without obvious symptoms can keep your nervous system functioning at 100% by keeping your spine MOVING. The brain requires 3 Essential Nutrients to function at 100% 1. Movement 2. Omega 3's 3. Vitamin D An Essential Nutrient is defined as: Genetically required for Biological Function. If you have any questions about how to keep your body biologically functioning at 100%, don't hesitate to call us or stop by the office. We will find a spot for you to get your spine MOVING and find a great source of Omega 3's and Vitamin D. All to often I hear the expression (really an excuse), "We'll, I have heart disease (diabetes, obesity, etc..) because my parents have it or had it." Or "it runs in the family". The central dogma that our genetics cause us to be healthy or unhealthy is about as accurate as saying "the skinny guy with heart disease that is high-strung has the same heart disease as the obese guy who has never worked out a day in their life."
Health comes down to taking care of the HEAD. Not your eyelashes, or the way you look, or your hairstyle but keeping your brain-body relationship functioning at 100%. Why is is exercise, food and a positive mind set so important to keeping you healthy?? Because your brain (HEAD) is a movement based-sensory organ. The brain is like a battery that needs recharging from the body to keep your body functioning at 100%. There are 2 types of stimuli the brain receives... Proprioception (good info) and Nociception (bad info). Your brain perceives 300 trillion bits of information at any given moment... you are conscious of only 50! Not, 50 billion, or 50 million, or 50,000 but 50! Exercise (movement), good diet/lifestyle (food) and thinking well cause Proprioception (good info) into the brain. Lack of those and a SUBLUXATED spine causes Nociception (bad info) into the brain. If you put Garbage IN (thoughts, traumas, toxins "Subluxation" - nociception) then you'll get Garbage OUT (heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, obesity, aches, pains, headaches, allergies, asthma etc...) The body always needs to have a good relationship with the head - physical health and spiritual health have the same Doctor. Call or email our Elkhorn, WI chiropractor today for your wellness evaluation! It always fascinates me when people tell me that they have had chiropractic wellness care since they were born but they still have periods of low back pain, aches and pains, and sometime feel unstable - how can this be?
Interesting enough, some individuals have joints that are abnormally angled. The word abnormal is probably a bit harsh, but I'll also point my finger at myself as well seeing that, I too, have an abnormality of the low back which periodically gives me some aches and pains. Approximately 20-35% of people are born with an anomaly or birth defect where a joint sits higher on one side compared to the other. Another reason for feeling unstable is, during pregnancy, some females can dislocate their pubis symphysis... combine these two factors and this can create havoc. The vast majority of pregnant women experience musculoskeletal pain and it is very important to see a chiropractor regularly to ensure stability, proper developmental signals to the developing fetus, and keeping mom's nerve flow running properly and adaptive to stress. 3 Important points I am trying to make: 1. Pregnancy places significant strain on even the healthiest of spines. 2. Everyone's spine is different and each body responds in its own unique way to stress. 3. Additional support such as chiropractic adjustments allow the body time to re-orient itself to the 9 months of changes that are happening and create healing. Why do so many pregnant women experience back pain during pregnancy? 1. Hormones - an increase in hormones during pregnancy affects the joints of the pelvis making them more lax or mobile. This is a normal process that helps a woman's body accommodate to a vaginal (natural) birth. Hormonal changes plus the alteration of the center of gravity due to a large pregnant belly lengthens and weakens not only the ligaments and surrounding muscles around the pelvis, but the thick band of fascia that helps to stabilize the thoracic and lumbar spine. 2. Weight Gain and Previous Injuries - the natural increase women have during pregnancy loads our spine and pelvis. If the mother has experienced pervious injuries or had accidents that have damaged the low back area and these injuries have been left uncorrected, they may have healed with poor joint biomechanics. How does it affect the mother? We see that when a pregnant mother's spine is placed under stress with a sizable abdomen, any number of health complaints may result - including low back or leg pain (stabbing, dull, shooting, or burning), pain felt around the pelvic girdle, buttocks, pubic region or radiating into the back of the thighs. Because the spine moves as one unit, one area of injury may impact the motion of the spine in another area and so there is typically no shortage of health implications. Additionally, because of the way the nervous system works, the musculoskeletal system (low back, thighs, abdominal wall) can also influence the organs of the body (somato-visceral reflexes), thus some women may have pain (referred pain) into her organs. For some women this may result in heart burn, or bowel issues for example. All in all, with everything said -- it makes perfect sense that so many pregnant women experience aches and pains during pregnancy. Shockingly though this is not the greatest concern I have for pregnant women. My deepest concern is how poor function of the mom's nervous system and spine can impact the growth and development of the baby... Call and get your nervous system checked at our Pediatric and Wellness Chiropractic office in Elkhorn, WI. Located just north of sunset park. It is becoming more common for parents to seek chiropractic care for kids. Many of the problems seen in adults often begin in childhood, even as early as birth. Birth trauma, even "natural" birth, can be traumatic to a developing spine and nervous system. Babies born via C-section, as well as those that are delivered by forceps or vacuum extraction, receive enormous amounts of pressure to their cervical spine. This trauma can cause the vertebra of the spine to become misaligned, a condition commonly known as a vertebral subluxation. Subluxations in newborns are common and health complaints such as nursing difficulties, breathing problems, colic, sleep disturbances, acid reflux, ear infections, allergies and asthma can result from it.
Chiropractic care for kids gets them on the road to reach their full potential. Due to the fact that birth is traumatic, many parents have their newborns checked by a pediatric chiropractor almost immediately after being born. It is important to have children checked regularly as they learn to hold their head up, sit, crawl and walk. The reason being, when a child is born, their spine looks like a "C". It does not have the 3 developed curves of the spine as an adult has. When a child learns to hold their head up, the cervical (neck) curve starts to form. When they begin/learn to crawl, the weight of their abdomen starts to form the lumbar (low back) curve. And when a child learns to walk, they fall on average, 5000 times per year. I advise a mother of a newborn that is completely symptom-free to get their child checked for subluxations 4 times in the first year of life. 1. immediately after birth. 2. when they learn to hold their head up. 3. when they start to crawl. 4. when they learn to walk. Keeping the child's nervous system working correctly will keep them growing and developing as they are designed to. Call or email our local Elkhorn Chio |
