Many of us often think of the physical aspect of healing and that’s where we come in. We’re here to help your spine realign, so that you can naturally heal from the inside, out. Whether it’s back pain, headaches, or far worse, we’ll give you the care you need to get better. Emotional. What about the emotional side of our pain? Stress, anxiety and sometimes depression follow or accompany chronic pain. It can make pain worse and it can be harder to talk about than physical pain. We’re here to change that because we’re here to listen… Healing Thoroughly so You Can Be You Again We know how frustrating it can be when you can’t do the things you love, when life seems unfair and when you feel there is no hope. But we’re here to help restore that hope, because we believe you can heal and you can be you again. To help your body fully heal, it’s important to address your physical and emotional pain at the same time. Physical Pain: Chiropractic care allows your body to heal from the inside out. By aligning your spine, you allow your nervous system to function, as it should. A healthy nervous system allows you to heal faster, naturally. We’ll work together to establish exercise and stretches that will help you strengthen and loosen your muscles to assist in your recovery. Emotional Pain: Keep a journal or your activity and how you feel. Over time you’ll see patterns that may help you know what to avoid, work on or tackle straight on! In times of sadness; lean on family and friends. If you continue to struggle you can seek counsel to guide you through the healing process, so you can get stronger and feel better with each new day. Try to relax. Practice deep breathing and muscle relaxation to ease the tension that stress and emotions can put on you. Create a relaxing environment at home and work by keeping the TV off and instead using music, candles, family and pets to soothe your soul. Stay positive. Focusing on your pain may make your pain worse, and research says that can lead further into depression, anxiety and stress. That will in turn, slow your healing. Instead, keep yourself distracted with positive things, focusing on your progress and counting your blessings along the way. Remember, we’re here for you in times of health and sickness. We’d love to help you through chiropractic care and get you going on the road to relief and ultimate wellness. Any questions? Call our Elkhorn, WI chiropractic office today!

One of the reasons Americans have become so deficient in vitamins is due to the fact that food manufacturers have stripped fats from our everyday foods and marketing has brain-washed us into believing fat is bad, increasing our cholesterol levels, waist size, and chronic diseases such as stroke and heart disease. The truth is, not all fat is created equal. There are 4 fat soluble vitamins (Vit A, D, E, and K). What it means to be a "fat soluble vitamin" is that the body needs dietary fat in order to absorb the vitamin (A, D, E, K). The problem with having less fat in our diet is that we cannot absorb the vitamins in our food and hence we become deficient while, at the same time, over consuming the wrong foods, promoting disease, aches and pain. Society has taught us to only eat the egg white, drink fat free pasteurized milk (avoid dairy all together) and use margarine instead of butter. It is no coincidence that foods that naturally have high amounts of Vitamin A, D, E, and K are found in foods that are rich in fat. These vitamins are imperative for proper hormone production, brain health, and reproduction. Do you ever wonder why this generation of "parents trying to get pregnant" have the hardest time "trying to get pregnant"? It's because the hormones used in reproduction are products of these fat soluble vitamins which they are deficient in. It is not because they lack medical screenings or fertility drugs. It is because they are D-ficient in something... Consequences of Vitamin D-ficiency:
Call your Elkhorn, WI chiropractor and From the Annals of Vertebral Subluxation Research, comes a case study published on June 26, 2014, documenting the improvement of abnormal posture, neck curvature and Gastro-Esophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) from chiropractic care. The authors describe GERD by saying, "Gastroesophageal reflux disease is arguably the most prevalent clinical condition of the gastrointestinal tract. The main symptom is heartburn - a retrosternal burning sensation aggravated by eating, lying down, or increased intraabdominal pressure."
The authors also explain the importance of spinal posture and alignment by noting, "Abnormal posture or any type of spinal misalignment can wreak havoc on the body. Abnormal spinal alignment has been correlated with poor general health, physical function, emotional function, lower back pain and social function. The curves in the spine act as levers, shock absorbers, and as resistance to gravity; they also protect and reduce forces acting on the spinal cord and nerve tissues." In this case, a 28-year-old female hair stylist went to a chiropractor's office complaining of chronic headaches, neck pain, dry skin, GERD, and back pain since she was 15 years old. Her problems all seemed to appear after she was involved in an automobile accident that occurred at that time. A chiropractic examination including x-rays confirmed the abnormal spinal curves, and a determination was made that spinal subluxations were present. Based on this finding, a course of specific chiropractic care was begun. The study recorded that after only two months of care, the woman showed postural curve changes towards normal. After two months, her GERD symptoms were reduced to the point where she no longer needed to take any of her medication for this problem. It was also reported that her other problems had improved significantly from her chiropractic care. I am amazed every day at the results we see in our Elkhorn Chiropractic office. The body truly has intelligent design that can recover or heal itself from many conditions. Call our Elkhorn Chiropractor today! A case study was published on June 13, 2014, in the Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health that documented the case of a young girl who was diagnosed with Dandy Walker Syndrome, and who had been suffering with headaches and neck pain, being help by chiropractic care.
According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, "Dandy-Walker Syndrome is a congenital brain malformation involving the cerebellum (an area at the back of the brain that controls movement) and the fluid-filled spaces around it. The key features of this syndrome are an enlargement of the fourth ventricle (a small channel that allows fluid to flow freely between the upper and lower areas of the brain and spinal cord), a partial or complete absence of the area of the brain between the two cerebellar hemispheres (cerebellar vermis), and cyst formation near the lowest part of the skull." In this case, a 13-year-old girl was brought to the chiropractor with right-sided headaches, neck pain, and lower back discomfort. The girl's history reported that she suffered from Dandy Walker Syndrome since birth. She currently has a cerebral shunt running from her right fourth ventricle to the left atrium of her heart. Her headaches had started about 6 months before seeking chiropractic care. They had gotten to the point where she was experiencing debilitating headaches 2-5 times per week that lasted from 1-3 hours each. The study notes that the only way the girl was able to get relief from her headaches was to rest without any body movement. The girl's neck pain also started about 6 months prior and was progressively getting worse. It was most severe by the end of the day. Her lower back pain was much less severe by comparison. Based on a chiropractic examination, it was determined that vertebral subluxations were present in the girl's spine and chiropractic adjustments were begun. Immediately after her first adjustment, she reported that her lower back "felt great." The next day, she reported via telephone that she had not had any headaches the night before, was not having any neck pain, and her back pain had not returned. By her third visit, she had still not experienced any headaches or neck pain, and the back discomfort that had returned a few days prior was once again gone. Over the course of care, the study notes some gaps in her visits that resulted in some headaches which were relieved after getting adjusted. Specific tests related to her Dandy-Walker Syndrome showed some improvement in her coordination and abilities. In their conclusion the authors wrote, "This study adds to the evidence on the salutary effects of chiropractic care in children with headaches, neck pain and concomitant symptoms associated with Dandy Walker Syndrome." The Journal of Upper Cervical Chiropractic Research published a study on June 23, 2014 that documented the case of a woman suffering from trigeminal neuralgia (TN) who was helped by chiropractic care. The American Association of Neurological Surgeons describes TN as "Trigeminal neuralgia, also known as tic douloureux, sometimes is described as the most excruciating pain known to humanity. The pain typically involves the lower face and jaw, although sometimes it affects the area around the nose and above the eye. This intense, stabbing, electric shock-like pain is caused by irritation of the trigeminal nerve, which sends branches to the forehead, cheek and lower jaw. It usually is limited to one side of the face."
The study authors note that medical management of TN usually involves medications possibly followed by surgery. They also report that approximately 50 percent of TN cases managed medically will ultimately have surgery for their condition. The authors point out that the medications commonly used to treat TN have a long and serious list of side effects including double vision, involuntary eye movement, dizziness, extreme fatigue or drowsiness, headaches, involuntary muscle movement, nausea, vomiting, jaundice, skin rashes, and hypertension. In this case, a 30-year-old woman went to the chiropractor with a chief complaint of left-sided facial pain. She had previously received a diagnosis of TN. She described her condition as the worst pain she had ever experienced, listing it as a 10 out of 10 in severity. She described her pain as dull, aching, and burning down the left side of her jaw and cheek. Additionally, the woman reported that she was also suffering from left-sided neck pain, bilateral shoulder pain, TMJ pain, mid-back pain, and right-sided low back pain. In her history, the woman reported that her TN started about eight months ago which seemed to be immediately after a visit to the dentist. She had also had a car accident several months prior to the onset of her TN. Some of her medical doctors even suggested that her problem arose from "mental stress onto her from her young son." This suggestion infuriated the woman. A chiropractic examination was performed on the woman that included palpation, leg length analysis, and specific spinal x-rays of the upper neck. From these, it was determined that vertebral subluxation was present in the upper neck. The authors explain subluxation and the chiropractic approach by saying, "Chiropractic has one goal: to reduce or eliminate the vertebral subluxation. The vertebral subluxation has been described as follows: Loss of juxtaposition of a vertebra with the one above, the one below, or both. It must consist of occlusion of an opening. Nerve impingement. Interference with the transmission of mental impulses." The results of the care reported that the woman experienced less pain from the onset of care. She did experience a flare-up of her TN around her 5th chiropractic visit. However, by her 10th visit the woman reported that she was no longer having any pain. If you or someone you know is dealing with some sort of pain or symptom do not hesitate to call our Elkhorn Wellness Chiropractic office! It's a question we hear all the time. If you have experienced results from care, it's only natural that you want someone you love to benefit too. Here are some non-treatening approaches that may be helpful for you.
Ask questions: Rather than judge their unwillingness to try chiropractic, become curious. Since our beliefs dictate our behavior, try to find out what belief(s) stand in their way. Often it is some fear of a terrible past experience or the thought of "if I try chiropractic, I'll have to come for the rest of my life". The truth is and you know, that we have never been and never will be high pressure. Instead, we try to create a friendly, family-centered environment that teaches individuals how their body truly heals. Supply information: One of the best ways to diffuse irrational fears is to supply information (which we are more than happy to provide) or have them come in during your next visit to meet Dr. Chad and the staff. Give it time: Change takes time. Whether it's making new healthy habits, changing someone's belief system or changing someone's spine. Be patient. Trust that your friend or family member will choose chiropractic when the time is right. The reason we have a nervous system is to perceive our environment and coordinate the behavior of every cell in our body. It is an epigenome thing, not a gene thing! Chiropractic rests on the simple truth that "your nervous system runs the whole show, maintain it!". When you tell others about chiropractic, you are slowly but surely changing the world. Practice Members, you are appreciated! Keep telling the world! Call or email your Elkhorn, WI chiropractor if you have any Many of us have already seen success in chiropractic care helping us with various problems and pain. However, chiropractic care is often seen as something you do for your back pain or neck pain. Though it is natural to associate chiropractic and back care, there is a multitude of other health concerns that may be helped through chiropractic care. Some conditions that many have seen alleviated by chiropractic care are: Surprised? Since chiropractic care is really about restoring nervous system control of your body, and your nervous system controls everything, we see many types of health issues other than back pain resolve with chiropractic care.
Chiropractic helps to remove the interference in your body that is causing your symptoms. This way your spine aligns into its proper position, boosting your entire body’s function and healing. Questions about other conditions? Just ask, we may be able to help! All to often I hear the expression (really an excuse), "We'll, I have heart disease (diabetes, obesity, etc..) because my parents have it or had it." Or "it runs in the family". The central dogma that our genetics cause us to be healthy or unhealthy is about as accurate as saying "the skinny guy with heart disease that is high-strung has the same heart disease as the obese guy who has never worked out a day in their life."
Health comes down to taking care of the HEAD. Not your eyelashes, or the way you look, or your hairstyle but keeping your brain-body relationship functioning at 100%. Why is is exercise, food and a positive mind set so important to keeping you healthy?? Because your brain (HEAD) is a movement based-sensory organ. The brain is like a battery that needs recharging from the body to keep your body functioning at 100%. There are 2 types of stimuli the brain receives... Proprioception (good info) and Nociception (bad info). Your brain perceives 300 trillion bits of information at any given moment... you are conscious of only 50! Not, 50 billion, or 50 million, or 50,000 but 50! Exercise (movement), good diet/lifestyle (food) and thinking well cause Proprioception (good info) into the brain. Lack of those and a SUBLUXATED spine causes Nociception (bad info) into the brain. If you put Garbage IN (thoughts, traumas, toxins "Subluxation" - nociception) then you'll get Garbage OUT (heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, obesity, aches, pains, headaches, allergies, asthma etc...) The body always needs to have a good relationship with the head - physical health and spiritual health have the same Doctor. Call or email our Elkhorn, WI chiropractor today for your wellness evaluation! It always fascinates me when people tell me that they have had chiropractic wellness care since they were born but they still have periods of low back pain, aches and pains, and sometime feel unstable - how can this be?
Interesting enough, some individuals have joints that are abnormally angled. The word abnormal is probably a bit harsh, but I'll also point my finger at myself as well seeing that, I too, have an abnormality of the low back which periodically gives me some aches and pains. Approximately 20-35% of people are born with an anomaly or birth defect where a joint sits higher on one side compared to the other. Another reason for feeling unstable is, during pregnancy, some females can dislocate their pubis symphysis... combine these two factors and this can create havoc. The vast majority of pregnant women experience musculoskeletal pain and it is very important to see a chiropractor regularly to ensure stability, proper developmental signals to the developing fetus, and keeping mom's nerve flow running properly and adaptive to stress. 3 Important points I am trying to make: 1. Pregnancy places significant strain on even the healthiest of spines. 2. Everyone's spine is different and each body responds in its own unique way to stress. 3. Additional support such as chiropractic adjustments allow the body time to re-orient itself to the 9 months of changes that are happening and create healing. Why do so many pregnant women experience back pain during pregnancy? 1. Hormones - an increase in hormones during pregnancy affects the joints of the pelvis making them more lax or mobile. This is a normal process that helps a woman's body accommodate to a vaginal (natural) birth. Hormonal changes plus the alteration of the center of gravity due to a large pregnant belly lengthens and weakens not only the ligaments and surrounding muscles around the pelvis, but the thick band of fascia that helps to stabilize the thoracic and lumbar spine. 2. Weight Gain and Previous Injuries - the natural increase women have during pregnancy loads our spine and pelvis. If the mother has experienced pervious injuries or had accidents that have damaged the low back area and these injuries have been left uncorrected, they may have healed with poor joint biomechanics. How does it affect the mother? We see that when a pregnant mother's spine is placed under stress with a sizable abdomen, any number of health complaints may result - including low back or leg pain (stabbing, dull, shooting, or burning), pain felt around the pelvic girdle, buttocks, pubic region or radiating into the back of the thighs. Because the spine moves as one unit, one area of injury may impact the motion of the spine in another area and so there is typically no shortage of health implications. Additionally, because of the way the nervous system works, the musculoskeletal system (low back, thighs, abdominal wall) can also influence the organs of the body (somato-visceral reflexes), thus some women may have pain (referred pain) into her organs. For some women this may result in heart burn, or bowel issues for example. All in all, with everything said -- it makes perfect sense that so many pregnant women experience aches and pains during pregnancy. Shockingly though this is not the greatest concern I have for pregnant women. My deepest concern is how poor function of the mom's nervous system and spine can impact the growth and development of the baby...
